Mixed media is the
process of adding two or more different media elements. Adding permanent marker to your painted
canvas makes it a mixed media piece.
Today we think of mixed media as adding paper, ink, sprays, and texture
to our canvases. You do not have to add
the paper to the background; in fact you can paint your background and then
begin adding the design elements to develop the texture in a similar manner. In this project I used scrap pieces that I
had in my stash for the canvas background, any similar papers are going to
work. I used a light neutral background
with tone on tone color elements when I developed the canvases. However when I developed the ornaments I used
only paint, take a look at each project to determine which is your
favorite. Whether you use paper or just
paint you can develop the background which adds that textured layer which
develops depth. If you love the look of mixed media but prefer to paint your background I provide you with detailed photos and instruction to complete either project.
