I sketch on a daily basis and I
jokingly tell people that characters just appear on the page because they want
to have a voice and come to life. Such
was the case with these gnomes. They
just appeared in my sketchbook during one sitting and seemed to have a life of
their own as they dance around the Christmas tree. I debated about how to let them tell their
story and they seemed to want to appear in various formats for all of you.
This project is an example of how to
take design elements from the original project and use them on a variety of
surfaces. The stacked gnomes on the side
of the piece are reproduced onto the tag ornament; these gnomes were the
perfect size for both pieces. I enlarged
the sitting gnome so that he would fit onto the square ornament and the gnome
on the gear is one of the stacked gnomes enlarged to fit the surface. I used surfaces that I had in my stash. This project could easily be adapted to fit
so many surfaces. I can’t wait to see
what creative ideas you come up with.
