I love a painted sampler although
I’m not sure why. It might go back to my
days of doing needlework. I love
segmenting sections of a piece with a border pattern and then overlapping with
the character elements. I feel that a
painted sampler makes for an interesting background especially if I want to use
a stencil in the background. The sampler
background is a non-traditional background that I think works for this
piece. The black background which has
been dry brushed with various paint colors softens the drama of the stark black
with bits and pieces of the stenciled background peeking out at you. This sampler showcases my new quirky whimsical
Frankenstein “Franky” with lettering, which is very popular right now, and an
adorable pumpkin. I see happiness at
every turn with this piece.
I used an 8”X8” square wood piece
for this project; you could easily use any surface for this design. I like flat surfaces to paint on, it makes
them so easy to store during the off season.
I can see this design painted on a canvas, a wood canvas, or any 3-D
piece. Wouldn’t this be adorable painted
on a tin surface? HMMMMM…… how about on
a tin tree????? Why not change up your
surfaces that would traditionally be used for Christmas. You can easily wrap this design around any
surface that you prefer. I have included 18 photos in this pattern with many of them as step by step photos. Enjoy painting
this whimsical cutie.
